Stillwater graduate Kyle Scanlon won the Dellwood Hills club championship in record-setting fashion on Friday and Saturday — 10 years after his father and current Ponies boys’ golf coach John Scanlon won the club championship.
Kyle posted a winning score of 178 (2-under) in the 45-hole event to finish 13 shots in front of Steve Chesley (191). Playing on a course with a rating of 74.3 and a slope of 141 from the blue tees, Dellwood Hills is no pushover, but Scanlon shot 69 and 71 in the first two rounds before closing out the tournament with a 38 on his final nine holes.
His score could have been lower if not for a double bogey, birdie, triple bogey finish. Kyle recorded 14 birdies in the event, bettering the previous scoring record in the club championship by seven shots.
