Senior Cassie Deeg was recently named the Most Valuable Player for the Stillwater girls’ golf team. It marked the fifth time in six years she has been named MVP.

It marked the fifth time in six seasons the University of Nebraska recruit has been named MVP for the Ponies — believed to be the most for any athlete to compete for the Ponies. Deeg was previously named MVP in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011 when she was the Class AAA individual state medalist. Teammate Hailey Boner received the MVP award in 2010. Cassie’s older sister Amy Deeg was selected team MVP in 2006.
Deeg finished third at state this past spring and was joined in earning all-state honors by Boner, who is a North Dakota State University recruit. Senior Alex Zeuli and freshman Erin Thiets joined Deeg and Boner in receiving All-Suburban East Conference honors as the Ponies went undefeated in league play. They also contributed to Stillwater winning the Section 4AAA championship by a whopping 35 shots.
Sophomore Amanda Wolf was named the Most Improved Player for the Ponies while Boner was honored as the Most Inspirational Player. Deeg was also this year’s recipient of the Phil Parizino Award.
In addition to a strong cast of graduating seniors, this also marked the last season for long-time coach Mike O’Rourke. With a new coach yet to be named, captains for the 2013 season will be announced at a later date.
