Legion baseball: St. Paul Park ends Post #48’s five-game winning streak

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — The Stillwater Legion baseball team topped St. Paul Park 9-5 in Game 1 of a League F doubleheader, but dropped the nightcap 10-4 to end a five-game winning streak on Monday at Stillwater Area High School.
The Game 2 setback was the first for Post #48 (6-7 League F, 10-12) since getting swept in a twin bill at Forest Lake on July 2.

Stillwater 9, St. Paul Park 5
Austin Holmberg (double), Connor Johnston and Nick Peterson each delivered two hits while seven different players drove in at least one run in Post #48’s Game 1 victory over St. Paul Park. Stillwater took control with a six-run third inning to grab a 6-2 lead and tacked on two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Wyatt Kurzejeski and TJ Galenti added a hit each for Stillwater.
Peterson threw six innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts to notch the win. Tony Lennox retired the final three batters to earn the save.

St. Paul Park 10, Stillwater 4
St. Paul Park responded in Game 2 to avoid the sweep, jumping on starter TJ Galenti for seven runs in the second inning and three more in the fourth to build a 10-1 lead. Lennox entered in the fourth and threw four scoreless innings while yielding two hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Chris Johnson collected three of Stillwater’s seven hits while driving in two runs. Romportl, Scott Livermore, Kurzejeski, Grant Moden and Sam Hodnefield added a hit each for Post #48.
