Lightning might be cause of blaze that destroyed house

The cause of the Lake Elmo house fire that occurred Monday night is undetermined without ruling out lightning, according to Lake Elmo Fire Chief Greg Malmquist.

“It’s leaning towards lightning,” Malmquist said, adding that there were reports of lightning in the area Monday.

Ten local fire departments fought the blaze that destroyed the residence in the 5700 block of Highlands Court North late Monday night until about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Lake Elmo firefighters were called to the home on the 5700 block of Highlands Court North around 10:30 Monday night. Malmquist said the female homeowner called the fire department after she noticed a glow outside from window.

The female homeowner escaped the fire safely, he added.
