Wind energy systems, other development issues topics of July public hearing

Wind energy conversion systems, "shore land non-conformities" and criteria used to grant variances are the topics of a July 10 public hearing set Tuesday by the Washington County Board of Commissioners.

Next month’s hearing before the county board was scheduled after the county’s Planning Advisory Commission (PAC) conducted earlier public hearings on amendments pertaining to the three issues and recommended either approval or an ordinance amendment.

Recent state law changes pertaining to "shore land non-conformities" and criteria used to consider granting a variance made amendments necessary to the county’s shore land management ordinance and a section of the development code.

The wind energy conversion systems amendment is the result of a request by the County Board that the PAC review the county’s ordinance regarding wind energy systems and determine if revisions are necessary.
