Valley students earn academic awards at MPA

Mounds Park Academy announced that seven St. Croix Valley graduating students received academic awards during the 2011-2012 school year.

Greta Gangestad of Stillwater was valedictorian of the Class of 2012, a National Merit Finalist, a National Honor Society Inductee and the recipient of the National Merit 3M Scholarship. She will attend Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass., in the fall.

Matthew Chambers of Stillwater was salutatorian of the Class of 2012, a National Honor Society Inductee and received the Senior Service Award. He will attend Duke University in Durham, N.C., in the fall.

John Brooksbank of Marine on the St. Croix was a National Honor Society Inductee, National Merit Commended and received the Intellectual Ambition Award. He will attend Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. in the fall.

Erin Law of Stillwater, Susie Krikava of Stillwater, Lauren Arsenault of West Lakeland, and Kimberly Bourne of Lake Elmo were all National Honor Society Inductees. Law will attend DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., Krikava will attend Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., Arsenault will attend Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. and Bourne will attend Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

These awards recognize the students’ outstanding achievements in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and/or character.

"Mounds Park Academy is proud to have so many students who have accomplished so much during their time here. These seven students and their fellow classmates who received awards this school year should be particularly commended for their achievements and feel well-prepared for the rigors of college and beyond," said Mike Downs, Head of School at Mounds Park Academy.

Mounds Park Academy is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational, college preparatory pre-K-12 day school on a 32-acre campus located in St. Paul. Approximately 600 students from throughout the Twin Cities metro area attend MPA.
