Street construction keeps train downtown until July
By HANNAH JOHNSON – Stillwater Gazette
The Minnesota Zephyr will continue sitting idle downtown until at least mid-July.
The city announced the delay was caused by construction work that will begin on Main Street and Commercial Street that starts on June 18.
Drivers making their way downtown will also be directed to a detour off of Main Street due to construction on new crosswalks at Main Street and Commercial street along with connecting the new pedestrian walkway restroom to water and sanitary and sewer.
City officials announced that work on the crosswalk will take place in two phases starting on the east side and then moving to the west side. The work should take about four weeks to complete, depending on the weather. Northbound traffic on Main Street will be rerouted to Water Street.
In addition to redirecting traffic to Water Street, parking will also be restricted on Main Street in the following areas:
on Main Street between Myrtle Street to 150 feet north of Commercial Street.
on Water Street between Myrtle Street and Mulberry Street.
on Myrtle Street between Main Street and Water Street.
on Mulberry Street between Main Street and Water Street.
