SAHS Athletes of the Week
Anna Posbergh – Girls track and field
Behind a strong senior cast that includes versatile Anna Posbergh, the Stillwater girls’ track and field team has enjoyed a successful season while winning section (True Team and MSHSL) and SEC titles.
Posbergh has been a key contributor for the Ponies and will compete in two events at this week’s state meet after placing second in the pole vault (10-1) and anchoring Stillwater’s first-place 4×100 relay team (49.52) that also included Lauren Olsen, Alex Crain and Bethany Adkins. Posbergh narrowly missed qualifying for state in the long jump, where she placed third with a distance of 16-8 1/4.
The state meet is slated for Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.
Christian Abilla – Baseball
One of the few returning athletes from Stillwater’s team that placed third in the state tournament a year ago, senior Christian Abilla has been solid at shortstop and on the mound while helping a largely inexperienced baseball team to a second-place finish in the SEC and to a third-place finish in the Section 4AAA tourney.
Abilla collected seven hits while hitting safely in all five of Stillwater’s section games, including two hits in victories over Mounds View (5-4) and North St. Paul (10-6). The senior also took his turn on the mound while taking the loss in a season-ending setback against Hill-Murray.
The Ponies finished the season with an 18-8 record, including 12-6 in the SEC.
