An unidentified Stillwater man was cited for stealing a 20-inch flat screen television from Lakeview Hospital earlier this week.

According to a Stillwater Police Department incident report, the man visited the hospital Monday and told staff he needed a place to stay since his mother had died. Staff allowed the man in the lobby where he bought a drink and watched television in the lobby.

About 15 minutes later, hospital staff and security lost track of the man and noticed one of the lobby’s 20-inch televisions was missing. Security video showed the suspect carrying the television out of the main entrance at approximately 11:45 p.m. Monday.

The next day, a hospital employee reported seeing the suspect at Lucky’s Gas Station at Greeley Avenue and Curve Crest Boulevard heading toward the Stillwater Elks Club. When officers arrived at the Elks Club, they were told the man was going to Wal-Mart in Oak Park Heights.

Officers found the suspect at Wal-Mart, where he admitted to taking the television from the hospital. He was cited for misdemeanor theft.
