STA presents military awards for 2011-2012 term

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – Three St. Croix Valley students were among those honored when Saint Thomas Academy held its military awards ceremony for the 2011-2012 school year May 23.

C/CPL Joseph Riehm of Stillwater received the Commandant’s Medal for leadership; C/1LT Samuel Schacker of Lake Elmo received Best Platoon-2nd Platoon, and CMSG William S. Leber of New Richmond, Wis., was awarded a U.S. Army ROTC scholarship to Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

Among the awards presented and the respective recipients included:

Founded in 1885, STA is an all-male, Catholic college preparatory and military leadership school committed to preparing young men to succeed in college and in life. Nationally accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), the academy challenges young men to excel academically, spiritually, morally and physically in and out of the classroom.
