The Stillwater Fire Department demonstrated its new firefighting boat Thursday on the St. Croix River. The SFD received donations of almost $13,000 from the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and RJF, a Marsh and McLennan Agency LLC company, $5,000 from the Margaret Rivers Foundation and $1,000 from the Stillwater Elks Club to retrofit the 24-foot surplus U.S. Coast Guard boat the department acquired three years ago. The money was used to buy a fire pump, steering brackets, motor mounting, oil tanks and other engine parts. No city funds went into purchasing or retrofitting the boat.
