A Lake Elmo woman died Wednesday in what appears to be a suicide, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 12:06 p.m., WCSO deputies and the Lake Elmo Fire Department responded to a call about a woman lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Both groups arrived to the area of 59th Street North and Highlands Trail North after a neighbor called authorities.
"It appears it was a suicide," said Cmdr. Cheri Dexter.
During the investigation deputies found the woman dead with a single gunshot wound to the head. Investigators are not looking for any individuals in connection with the case. Deputies do not believe this is a risk to the public.
The woman’s name is being withheld until her next-of-kin are notified.
