SAHS Athletes of the Week
Hannah Heacox – Softball
One of three reliable arms available for the Stillwater softball team, Hannah Heacox has helped the balanced Ponies win five of their last six games to close out the regular season.
Heacox allowed just one run in a complete game victory over highly regarded Hill-Murray on Wednesday and did not allow an earned run in Friday’s nonconference victory over Eagan. Prior to that, she fired a complete game five-hitter in a shutout victory over East Ridge on May 9. The junior has struck out 28 batters in her last three starts, including just one earned run and 16 hits in her past 21 innings.
Stillwater (11-7 SEC, 13-7) is slated to open Section 4AAA play next week.
Colton Anderson – Boys tennis
Anchoring a largely inexperienced lineup, Colton Anderson has been a steady performer for the Stillwater boys’ tennis team this spring.
Playing at first singles is not picnic, but the junior has been strong down the stretch while winning three in a row before falling St. Paul Highland Park’s Malik Konop DeFreitas, who is one of the top players in Section 4AA, during Stillwater’s 5-2 second-round victory on Tuesday. Prior to that, Anderson defeated Woodbury’s Matt Shubert, Mounds View’s Jakob Bartels and Tou Xai Lee of St. Paul Harding.
The Ponies (2-7 SEC, 6-9) will travel to fourth-seeded Cretin-Derham Hall for a section quarterfinal match today.
