WOODBURY – Globe University – Woodbury invites community members to attend free classes provided by its faculty, staff and students Friday as part of Globe University’s commitment to building communities through education.

A variety of workshops, activities and learning seminars are available for participants to select, including a pet safety seminar, a Photoshop 101 class, a budget management workshop and a healthy lifestyles presentation. Young professionals have several activities to choose from to develop their business skills, including a resume-building workshop. Each session is at 10:30 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m. The event also includes a 10 a.m. social media workshop.

Globe University, along with Minnesota School of Business and Broadview University is part of a premier, family-managed system of career colleges, universities and training centers based in Woodbury. The Woodbury location is one of 26 campuses in Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Idaho and Utah participating in this network-wide community enrichment day.

"Building Communities Through Education" is the theme for Globe University’s sixth annual community service day. It underscores the school’s philosophy and commitment of giving back to the community by having students take an active role in creating and implementing projects that go beyond classroom learning. Educational workshops across the system of specialty skills colleges will range from pet wellness and Skype tutorials for seniors to grant writing, social media and interior design.

Last year’s Community Service Day was held at 26 campuses in five states, with about 800 employees donating approximately 4,500 hours of service to their local communities.

The free workshops are part of a larger nationwide "We SERVE" challenge issued by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to engage career college students throughout the U.S. in giving back to their communities.

"These workshops are an opportunity for our faculty, staff and students to share their skills, knowledge, dedication and passion for education to make a difference in their local communities," said Mindy Myhre, director of community outreach and charitable giving for Globe University, MSB and Broadview University. "It also is part of our ‘We Care’ philosophy, which guides everything we do from academics to scholarships to community partnerships. We believe strongly in serving the communities where our employees and students work, live and go to school. We are excited to invite the community into our campus to experience our passion for education."
