WOODBURY – The Stillwater girls’ lacrosse team continued its red-hot scoring pace while dispatching East Ridge 20-4 in Monday’s Suburban East Conference game.
The Ponies (7-1 SEC, 8-2), who remain in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings with Roseville (6-1, 7-3) and Cretin-Derham Hall (6-1, 7-3), have outscored their past four opponents by a combined 76-15.
Dana Almquist has helped spur that high-powered attack while scoring eight goals against the Raptors (2-5, 4-7) and 16 in the past two games.
"Our passing was a little off, but overall, we played well," Stillwater coach Rick Reidt said. "We were a little out of focus, but we played well and were able to play everybody a significant amount of time.
The Ponies scored four times in the first three minutes of the game and were never seriously challenged while building an 11-1 halftime lead. Almquist scored three of her goals during a 78-second stretch late in the first half.
Maggie Corman and Kate Sheely added three goals apiece for Stillwater, which also received two tallies from Katie Casto and a goal each from Jenny Jorgensen, Remi Larson, Emma Wiessner and Carter Sanderson.
"East Ridge is a young team and our experience just really helped us out in that game."
n Also on Monday, the Stillwater JV team improved to 9-0 on the season with a 13-3 victory over the Raptors. Carter Sanderson led the Ponies with three goals while Madi Sova notched two goals. Britt Pooley finished with five saves in goal for Stillwater, which built a 9-0 lead early in the second half.
