Explore county parks day June 2

The Washington County Board of Commissioners invites residents to experience the great outdoors by attending Explore Your Parks Day in the county June 2, when no vehicle permits are required to enter any Washington County park.

To kick off the day, visit Lake Elmo Park Reserve. At the beach area, join the lifeguards for a 5K/1K fun run/walk with free registration from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The 1K kids run will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 5K run/walk at 10 a.m., both from the beach building. Fun run participants will be included in a raffle for a free annual park pass good for all Washington County Parks.

From noon to 3 p.m., explore a variety of free family activities including rock climbing, Zumba on the Beach, kayak demonstrations, outdoor yoga, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) touch tank, inflatable obstacle course, ArtReach St. Croix projects, make-your-own s’more, and more. There will also be several exhibits highlighting Leadie Eddie lead screenings, DNR FIN Program, and Washington County services.

On-stage entertainment at the beach will include the lively and educational "Enviro-Show" by Tricia and the Toonies, a nature program about owls by Warner Nature Center, a canine demonstration by "Blaze" from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and live music by Will Hale and the Tadpole Parade.

Campfire Programs will also be at 7:15 p.m. June 2 at both Lake Elmo Park Reserve and St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. These nature programs are scheduled in the park every Saturday night between May 26 and Sept. 1.
