Washington County hosts an informational meeting about foster care from 6 to 8 p.m. June 4, in Lower Level Room 13 at the county Government Center in Stillwater.
The county requires people in providing foster care to attend a meeting that provides an overview of the foster care program. For those who decide to be licensed to provide foster care for adults, the process begins at no cost to them.
In addition to meeting state licensing requirements, foster families should be able to provide the following:
A stable family atmosphere (can be a one- or two-parent home);
A positive attitude;
Adequate housing, whether a house or apartment;
Love and support for the children or adults in their care.
Before families can be licensed, they must undergo a screening process that includes an extensive background check.
Additional meetings are Aug. 6, Oct. 1 and Dec. 3.
