ARDEN HILLS – The Stillwater boys’ tennis team pulled out three-set victories at first and second singles, but Mounds View won each of the remaining points in straight sets to pull out a 5-2 victory and secure the Suburban East Conference title outright.

The Ponies (2-6 SEC, 5-8), who have a previously postponed match to make up with Woodbury today, could have helped Roseville earn a share of the title with a victory over the Mustangs, but those hopes were dashed.

"Mounds View got us again," Stillwater coach Dave Kahl said. "I’m sure Roseville was pulling for the Ponies, but no luck."

Colton Anderson provided a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory for the Ponies at first singles over Jakob Bartels and Sam Stiff followed with a 3-6, 6-4, (10-4) triumph over Paul Kroska at the second spot for the only knocks against Mounds View.

Mounds View’s Jake Trondson stopped Mitch Johnson 6-2, 6-1 at third singles and Henry Morris did not lose a game while dispatching Nick Rheinberger at fourth singles.

Scott Xiong and Daniel Ahrendt fell to Tyler Wiegert and Isaac Jemielida at No. 1 doubles while Max Wilkinson and Stone Xiong fell short in a 6-3, 6-1 loss against Austin Wiegert and Griffin Anderson of Mounds View at second doubles. The Mustangs also prevailed at third doubles with C.J. Lloyd and Carter Jones defeating Brady Tynen and Nick Folz 6-2, 6-2.

"We again got nice performances from first and second singles," Kahl said. "Their depth was very good, though."

n Mounds View also won two exhibition matches on Thursday. Stillwater’s Nate Anderson and Victor Ary dropped a doubles match against David Le and Hunter Krebsbach 6-0, 6-0 and Brian Treacy lost to Alan Zhao 6-2, 6-3 in singles.

n Seedings for the Section 4AA tourney were announced Thursday and the Ponies have received the No. 5 seed. Stillwater will face the winner of today’s match between St. Paul Highland Park and St. Paul Harding in the second round on Tuesday.
