Author, editor Hertzel speaks at writers series

Minneapolis Star Tribune Books Editor Laurie Hertzel, is the featured speaker at the May "Writers on Writing" program at 7 p.m. at ArtReach St. Croix in Stillwater.

Hertzel is the author of three books, including "News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist," winner of a 2011 Minnesota Book Award. Her award winning journalism and short fiction pieces have been featured in newspapers and magazines across the United States and abroad. Hertzel will discuss her writing process and her role as books editor for a large-market newspaper.

Writers on Writing is sponsored by ArtReach St. Croix. The goal of the program is bringing authors into the community to talk about writing, publishing and the writing life. Upcoming speakers include Catherine Friend, Author of "Sheepish," "Hit By A Farm," "The Compassionate Carnivore" and several children’s books.

The event is at ArtReach St. Croix, 224 N. Fourth St, in Stillwater. It includes the presentation, question-and-answer session, book signing and the opportunity to mingle with other writers, artists and book lovers. The event is free and open to the public. Writers on Writing is sponsored by Valley Bookseller of Stillwater and supported through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.
