12 groups awarded ‘Blessing Fund’ grants

BAYPORT – People’s Congregational Church in Bayport announced the recipients of its 2012 Blessing Fund grants May 13.

For grant recipients, the funds allow the organizations to reach out to people locally and globally and provide much needed assistance through essential programs.

People’s Church sponsors a variety of outreach and missions activities and "The Blessing Fund" is an annual church program that supports a diverse mix of social service agencies working on problems such as homelessness, substance abuse and basic food and clothing needs, as well as more spiritually focused initiatives reaching out to families and teens.

Since 1999, the Blessing Fund has awarded more than $415,000 to 76 individuals and organizations. Applicants received funding amounts ranging in size from less than $500 to more than $10,000.

"The Blessing Fund process engages all members of the church in deciding through their ballots how the funds will be dispersed", said Dale Shaller, committee chairman.

This year, 12 applicants received a total of $18,599 in funding. The recipients include: Angel’s Haven Adoption Agency (http://www.angelshaven.org/), Building Dignity (http://www.buildingdignity.org/), Justin Buchs-Hammonds, Nichole Guthrie, The Center at The Congregational Church of Needham, Mass., (www.needhamcongregational.org), The Minnesota Fellowship of Congregationalists (http://www.mnfellowship.org/), The Net Church, The River Community Church (http://www.behindtheriver.org/),Operation HELP/The Source (www.thesourcehudson.com),Teddy Bears With Two Eyes (www.TeddyBearsWithTwoEyes.com), and Young Life St. Croix Valley (http://sites.younglife.org/).
